Healthy Foods for Our Bodies

We are going to live a long and healthy life. We choose to do this by eating healthy foods. Healthy foods will make your bones strong. There are a lot of healthy foods to eat. You can eat vegetables and fruits. They have vitamins that keep you healthy and well. We will eat baked or grilled foods instead of fried foods. Grilled or baked foods are better for you, because they don’t have oil or grease. We will eat foods that are low in salt and fat. Salty and fattening foods are not good for your heart. We should not eat a lot of sweets and breads. This breaks down into sugar. This is not healthy for your body.We have learned about how healthy foods will help us live longer and healthier lives. We learned what foods we should eat. Our class is on our way to living a longer and healthier life.

Living A Healthier Life

James' storyboard on how to live a healthier life.

WJTV and Rachel Ray are working together to help us become a healthier state. This week Ms. Strum talked with us about some things that we could do to live a healthier life. We talked about 5 things that we could do. The things that we said that we could do to live a healthier life were the following: 1. Eat fruits and vegetables! 2. Exercise! 3. Drink water and juices! 4. Cook at home! 5. If you are overweight, you need to lose weight!

Ms. Strum told us that we would be working on writing our own paragraph telling what we would do to live a healthier life. We were given a sheet of paper along with four squares to draw what we would be writing. Ms. Strum told us to pick three of the five things to write about that we could do to live a healthier life. We drew what we were going to write about on our four squares. We had to make it very detailed showing what we would do! The next thing we did was write sentences to describe what was happening on each individual square.

Shamiah working hard illustrating what she can do to live a healthier life.

Bryson working hard to illustrate what he can to do to live a healthier life!

Karlon working hard to illustrate what she could do to live a healthier life!

Shaniah working hard to illustrate what she could do to live a healthier life!

James working hard on completing the illustration of his storyboard.

Quaniesha working hard on completing the illustration of her storyboard.

Ms. Strum showed us that the next step was to take what we had drawn on each square and written on the card underneath the square describing the scene and write a paragraph on what we can do to LIVE A HEALTHIER LIFE.

Toni working hard on completing the illustration of her storyboard.

Jairus hard at work completing his illustration of his storyboard!

Ladarius C. working on his sentences that describe the pictures.

Myeesha writing her paragraph on Living a Healthier Life using her pictures and sentences from her storyboard.

The students used the storyboard they created and wrote a paragraph about how they would live a healthier life. The students did a GREAT JOB! Come by and see our hard work.

Challenge Bowl

Test Prep Questions

On Thursday, March 4, 2010, we will begin taking our District 3rd Nine Weeks Test. Ms. Strum and Ms. Chassidy have been preparing us for these tests. We have been reviewing for our Reading, Language, and Math test all week. Today Ms. Strum and Ms. Chassidy divided us into two different teams. The two teams competed against each other. One team was the Saints and the other was the Bulldogs. Ms. Chassidy and Ms. Strum would put test prep questions on the overhead. Each team would have to read and answer the question. We would have to justify our answer to Ms. Chassidy and Ms. Strum. We had a great time playing Challenge Bowl while reviewing for the District Nine Weeks Test.

THE BULLDOGS

THE SAINTS

WE HAD A GREAT TIME REVIEWING FOR OUR NINE WEEKS TEST! We will take our time and do our best on our tests!

Read Across America/Dr. Seuss' Birthday

Ms. Sasser excited about Read Across America/Dr. Seuss' Birthday

Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss' Birthday! His real name is Theodore Seuss Geisel. Dr. Seuss was a great author who wrote wonderful books that encouraged children to read! Dr. Seuss wrote a great deal of books that used rhyming words. He is most known for The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Ms. Sasser, our great librarian, organized this day. Ms. Sasser worked with Dr. Shepherd, an MC professor, to get readers to come and read to all of the classes.

The Dr. Seuss Readers getting their books to read.

Ms. Sasser and Dr. Shepherd getting ready for the Dr. Seuss Readers.

Miss Nancy Leigh reading McElligott's Pool by Dr. Seuss to Ms. Strum's 2nd grade class.

Miss Singletary reading one of Dr. Seuss' books.
We were so special! We had two readers come to our class and come celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday! Thank you so much Miss Singletary and Miss Nancy Leigh. It was a GREAT day! Thank you to Ms. Sasser for all your hard work in helping us celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday!
