Reading and Language Centers

Ms. Chassidy is working with us in our center on Homonyms. Ms. Chassidy told us that homonyms are words that sound the same but have different meanings. We worked with Ms. Chassidy match the correct homonyms. We to cut them apart and match them.

WE LOVE CENTERS! We work in centers everyday! We rotate through four centers everyday. We go to a Reading center, a Phonics center, a Writing center, and a Language center. Ms. Strum gives us hands-on activities that we enjoy doing. The centers that you will see pictured below are of us working on Homonyms, Syllables, Antonyms, Fiction/Non-Fiction, and Compare/Contrast.

Ms. Chassidy working with Shamiah, Tierra, Derrick, Ladarius C., Toni, and Karlon on Homonyms.

Myeesha is working on sorting Fiction and Non-Fiction passages. Ms. Strum taught us that fiction meant that it could not happen. Ms. Strum helped taught us an easy way to remember what Fiction means. Fiction=FAKE Ms. Strum taught us that non-fiction means that it could happen. Non-fiction=REAL Ms. Strum gave us ten passages that we had to cut out and read. We had to read the passages and determine if they were fiction or non-fiction.

Shaniah, Quaniesha, and Xzyia working on matching the correct antonyms. Ms. Strum taught us that ANTONYMS are words that mean the opposite of each other. We had to cut out and match the correct antonym with each other.

Marquavius and Karlon had at work looking for words in the magazine with one, two, three, or four syllables. Ms. Strum taught us that syllables are words broken into segments. Ms. Strum taught us that clapping out the word will help us determine the number of syllables.

Ladarious M. and Kenosha are working hard making a Venn Diagram to Compare/Contrast birds and animals from the story, The Great Ball Game. Ms. Strum taught us that when we compare, we tell the things that are alike and that when we contrast, we tell the things that are different.

We had a great time this week working in centers! Feel free to come by and visit and see all the hard work that we do daily!
